We bring experienced OHS professionals together with occupational safety specialists and occupational physicians who are committed to advancing their careers, within a safe, ethical and carefully structured professional mentoring experience.

Why Does IIHSE Run This Programme?

IIHSE is a non-profit professional body and social-impact organisation. We run this programme on a voluntary basis to strengthen professional solidarity, ethical practice and a resilient culture of safety across occupational health and safety. Unlike commercial mentoring services, it is built on the voluntary contribution of experienced practitioners and a clearly defined learning framework.

Mentor or Mentee? Choose the Role That Best Fits You

👥 Apply as a Mentor

Eligibility requirements:

  • At least five years’ relevant professional experience in OHS
  • A genuine willingness to guide and support a mentee
  • Capacity to commit approximately two hours per month
  • A demonstrable commitment to ethical professional practice

Responsibilities: Attend scheduled mentoring sessions, provide constructive feedback and support the mentee’s career development.

Eligibility requirements:

  • A clear commitment to professional development in OHS
  • Current IIHSE membership or a submitted membership application
  • A commitment to attend all scheduled sessions consistently
  • Willingness to establish and follow through on a personal development plan

Responsibilities: Participate actively in each session, engage openly with feedback and complete the agreed actions between sessions.

A Six-Session Development Journey

Each stage of the programme follows a clear and carefully structured framework:

  1. Introductions and Goal Setting – Establishing rapport and defining expectations and objectives
  2. Baseline Assessment – Reviewing current capabilities, experience and development needs
  3. Action Planning and Early Progress – Agreeing practical steps and reviewing initial outcomes
  4. Feedback and Alignment – Providing structured feedback and completing programme-level progress reporting
  5. Next Steps – Exploring career pathways and shaping a longer-term plan
  6. Closure and Continuity – Evaluating the programme, completing documentation and agreeing a 90-day follow-up plan

How Does the Process Work?

Every stage following an application is clear and transparent:

1. Application: Complete the mentor or mentee application form
2. Eligibility Review: The programme team reviews the information provided against the relevant criteria
3. Matching: Participants are matched according to their professional interests, sector experience, development objectives and career stage
4. Mutual Acceptance: Both the mentor and mentee independently approve the proposed match
5. 12-Week Programme: Participants complete six structured sessions and the development activities they have agreed
6. Closure and Follow-Up: The programme concludes with final documentation and a 90-day follow-up period

Ethics, Confidentiality and Safeguarding

✓ Sessions Are Not Recorded – Participants’ privacy and the confidentiality of their discussions are protected

✓ Commercial Solicitation Is Prohibited – Mentors may not advertise, promote or sell their own services

✓ Zero Tolerance for Ethical Misconduct – Any concern or reported breach is formally reviewed and addressed

✓ Rematching Support Is Available – A new pairing may be considered if the initial match proves unsuitable
